Leon County Government and Big Bend Pop Warner invite residents to enjoy First String Family Day on Saturday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Leon County Apalachee Regional Park for a day of exciting action and friendly competition. The event kicks off registration for the 2015 Big Bend Pop Warner tackle football, cheer and dance programs that run August through November.

Attendees start the day exploring the park’s world-class cross country trails during the Training Day 5K, which is followed by the FREE Kids & Pros Heads Up Football Clinic. Pre-registration for the 5K starts at 7 a.m., with the race beginning at 8 a.m. Clinic registration starts at 9 a.m., and on-the-field Heads Up Training will start shortly thereafter.

Kids & Pros has partnered with the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons, Big Bend Pop Warner and Leon County Parks and Recreation Division to bring this event to this community. Kids & Pros and Big Bend Pop Warner have been at the forefront of the national USA Football "Heads Up" program by teaching techniques designed to take the “head out of the game” of football. Additionally, parents, players and coaches will receive information on the latest protocols when identifying, isolating and treating sports-related concussions.

Registration for the fall Pop Warner program is for children 5 to 15 years of age, and registrants must be present to be eligible. Parents and guardians need to bring proof of residency, the child’s birth certificate (both a copy and the original) and a current photograph, which can be taken on site, to complete the application. All other necessary 2015 Pop Warner forms will be available on site.
