DEP TO DEDICATE PAVILION TO FORMER DIRECTOR OF FLORIDA PARK SERVICE

~The Lakeside Pavilion at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens will be dedicated to Walter Coldwell~

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service will dedicate the Lakeside Pavilion at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park to Walter Coldwell, director of Florida Park Service from 1960 to 1963, on Tuesday, April 28. 

Coldwell, a landscape architect, was hired by the Florida Park Service in 1936 to design and develop the first state parks in Florida. Throughout his 31-year career with the park service, Coldwell helped design more than 30 state parks, including designing the Lakeside Pavilion that will be dedicated to him. Dr. Joe Knetsch, retired historian from the department’s Division of State Lands, will share Coldwell’s numerous accomplishments at the dedication ceremony.
