DEP CELEBRATES GROUNDBREAKING
ON NEW CAMPGROUND IN FLAGLER BEACH
~More than 30 RV sites to be added to popular
recreation area~
FLAGLER BEACH – Today the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the
Florida Park Service broke ground during a ceremony to celebrate the
construction of a 34-site campground at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation
Area at Flagler Beach.
“More access to state parks is one of the primary goals
for the department,” said DEP Deputy Secretary Katy Fenton, “The new campground
will expand camping opportunities in this area and give residents
and tourists another opportunity to enjoy our great state.”
The park’s existing campground is wildly popular, boasting the
highest occupancy rate of any campground in the Florida Park Service.
Campgrounds and recreation areas provide recreational, economic and quality-of-life benefits to local communities.
The campground will add 30 RV sites and four tent sites to the
park’s existing 34 ocean-side campsites. The proximity to the Intracoastal
Waterway makes this campground a very popular recreational opportunity. The
design work for the project began on July 1, 2013, and the target opening date
is spring 2015.
“This expansion of Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area
at Flagler Beach will ensure even more families are able to enjoy the natural beauty
and exciting activities our wonderful community has to offer. I am proud to
have done some small part in making our local treasure even better,” said
Rep. Travis Hutson.
