The Florida Park Service is proud to announce having three parks named on Dr. Beach's Top 10 List for 2014. Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park, located in the Florida Panhandle, was ranked high on the list at number three. Recreational opportunities include boating, camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, shelling and many more. Also on the list were Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne and Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park in Naples, which were ranked seven and 10, respectfully. St. George Island and Delnor-Wiggins both offer beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico, while Cape Florida offers a panorama of the Atlantic Ocean.

Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, also known as Dr. Beach, is considered America’s foremost beach expert. Since 1991, Dr. Beach has released his list of America’s Best Beaches for the Memorial Day holiday. Over the span of 24 years, Dr. Beach has compiled a 50 criteria rate sheet for each American beach he visits. The criteria is based off a scale ranging from one to five, with five being the highest score a beach can receive. The criteria includes factors such as sand softness, water temperature, smell, views, cleanliness and intensity of beach use. Based on these criteria, Florida State Parks including Bahia Honda State Park, Caladesi Island State Park, Grayton Beach State Park, St. Andrews State Park and T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park have all received the number one title in past years.

Invite your family and friends to join you at any one of our beautiful beaches and see for yourself why Dr. Beach has ranked some of Florida State Parks’ beaches the best in America.
