AWARD-WINNING STATE PARKS UNAFFECTED, STILL OPEN DURING SHUTDOWN
~If you were planning on visiting a national park in Florida, enjoy a state-park instead~
Kayakers enjoy Hillsborough River State Park, one of Florida's 171 parks, greenways and trails open to the public.
TALLAHASSEE –Despite a federal government shutdown, Florida's 171 award-winning state parks, greenways and trails are open for business to ensure Floridians and visitors can enjoy the state's natural, cultural and historic resources.
Floridians and visitors may enjoy
Florida’s famous sunshine by visiting state parks and state trails for
family friendly fun, such as fishing, swimming, beach combing and picnicking. Throughout October, the Division will celebrate Florida Greenways and Trails
Month with a focus on hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and canoeing and
kayaking activities. Park rangers and volunteers will continue to host special
events and are taking advantage of Florida’s slightly cooler temperature.
"While the national parks are being shut down because of instability in Washington, Florida's award-winning parks, greenways and trails are available for all to enjoy," said DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. "Because of Governor Scott's leadership in Florida, DEP's Florida Park Service welcomes all residents and visitors."
Florida’s 171 state parks and state
trails are open for business, 8 a.m. to sunset. Some special feature sites and
museums have alternative hours.
Plan your trip by visiting the Florida State Parks website or by downloading the Florida State Parks Pocket Ranger® app, which is available on
iTunes and Android Market by searching “Official Florida State Parks”
