The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is sponsoring three free virtual webinar workshops for water and wastewater utility operators and leaders serving tribes and small communities to provide insight into effective strategies for asset management, utility rate setting, staff retention and to provide information on maintaining wastewater lagoons and onsite septic systems.

Join EPA Virtually for the Two-Hour Workshops

A well operated wastewater or drinking water facility lasts longer and lowers the overall cost to a community. Tribes and small communities face challenges in operating these utilities often because of small budgets and challenges with retaining qualified staff. This webinar series will use presentations, case studies, and breakout group discussions to discuss how best to operate, maintain and manage small utilities.
The three two-hour sessions include:

  • April 20, 2022 - Asset Management - Planning for the Future
Don’t wait until something breaks. Learn about asset management tools to support long-range planning and techniques for setting rates to fund your utility.
  • April 27, 2022 - Finding and Retaining Good Leaders and Staff
Effective leadership and staff retention are key issues for small utilities. Learn about successful practices from other organizations.
  • May 4, 2022 - Wastewater Lagoons and Onsite Septic Systems
Many communities rely on small lagoons for wastewater management or onsite septic systems serving individual properties. Learn about the operation and maintenance and how they can be optimized to protect water quality.

Please click on the title of each webinar to register. Each session will run from 2-4 PM (CST). Up to 200 people can attend each session and breakout groups will be used for more in-depth conversations. A certificate of attendance will be provided from EPA for participants that attend the entire event and contribute to group discussions, chats, polls and other activities. Continuing Education Credits are pending for Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. Once registered, participants will receive directions on how to log onto each webinar for the presentations and discussions
