DEP Announces Public Meeting to Update Unit
Management Plans for Honeymoon Island
and Caladesi Island State Parks

WHAT:         Honeymoon Island and Caladesi Island State Parks Public Meetings

WHEN:        Monday, Oct. 18, 2021                  
                    Open House Public Meeting: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
                    Virtual Public Meeting: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

WHERE:    Honeymoon Island State Park – Rotary Centennial Nature Center             
                   1 Causeway Blvd.                    
                   Dunedin, FL 34698

DEP’s Florida Park Service is in the process of updating the unit management plans for Honeymoon Island State Park and Caladesi Island State Park. The public is invited to attend the public meeting to learn more about the proposed plans for the state parks and to provide comments.

The public notice, agenda and meeting materials are available online. Copies may also be obtained by emailing Don Bergeron at Donald.Bergeron@FloridaDEP.gov or calling 727-241-6100. There will be a brief presentation, and staff will be available for the duration of the meeting to answer questions and accept public comments.

Additionally, the public is invited to review and submit comments to the Division of Recreation and Parks at FLStateParkPlanning@FloridaDEP.gov until Nov. 2, 2021.

Potential developments and improvements to facilities at Honeymoon Island State Park that could occur over the next 10 years include:

  • Entrance enhancements to address congestion issues.
  • Development of a paddling launch to provide access to the bay.
  • Additional restroom and picnicking facilities.
  • Augmentation of existing park management support facilities.

Potential developments and improvements to facilities at Caladesi Island State Park that could occur over the next 10 years include:

  • Additional restroom and picnicking facilities.
  • Enhancements to resource management capacities.
  • Additional staff and volunteer residences.
