Notice of Funding Availability for Electric School Buses
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection announces a Notice of Funding Availability for $57 million for the purchase of electric Type C or Type D school buses. These are intended to replace eligible Type C or Type D diesel school buses. As highlighted in Florida's Beneficiary Mitigation Plan, the department continues to focus on increasing electric vehicle infrastructure while encouraging the use of electric vehicles and the growth of related construction and manufacturing.
Only school districts within an Air Quality Priority Area designated in the Mitigation Plan are eligible for this project. School districts must provide at least a 25-percent cost-share. Funding will be provided on a competitive basis, with prioritization of school districts that provide the highest cost-share. Districts are encouraged to create partnerships with local electric utilities or other business entities to maximize cost-share opportunities.
The selected school districts are required to use state-approved vendors or competitively identify businesses to complete the project. School districts in Air Quality Priority Areas that wish to replace eligible diesel school buses with electric school buses and associated charging equipment should visit the department’s Volkswagen Settlement webpage to download, complete and submit the application worksheet. Applications must be received by Dec. 18, 2020, at 5 p.m. Eastern time.
