TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In celebration of National Public Lands Day, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection invites residents and visitors to participate in volunteer events at Florida State Parks on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event to support public lands. The National Environmental Education Foundation has coordinated National Public Lands Day for 25 years, encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to participate in festivities, provide assistance with trail maintenance and native plantings, collect litter from coastal areas and give back to their favorite natural places. DEP will join partners in offering more than 60 statewide events, including beach and trail cleanups, invasive plant removal, native plantings and informational sessions to promote volunteerism and encourage the preservation of Florida’s natural resources. Additionally, DEP has launched its Our Lands. Our Legacy. webpage in conjunction with National Public Lands Day and the upcoming Public Land Acquisition and Management Partnership Conference. The webpage includes information about the Florida Forever program, how state lands contribute to a resilient Florida, where to enjoy public lands and opportunities to volunteer.
