DEP South District Presents Environmental Stewardship Award to Brooke Bascomb

~Award presented in recognition of commitment to environmental protection~

Bascomb Env. Stewardship Award

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s South District recently recognized Brooke Bascomb for her commitment to environmental protection. Brooke is passionate and committed to creating a safe, clean environment free of pollutants. The department first learned about Brooke’s work after her story was featured on Fox 4 News. On her day off school, Brooke elected to clean the canal outside of her grandfather’s house in Cape Coral, removing countless pieces of debris.

“At just 12 years old, Brooke has shown us age does not hinder one’s ability to make a difference in their community," said Jon Iglehart, director of DEP’s South District. "Brooke’s tenacity and motivation are a testament to how we can protect Florida’s environment together. “

The South District initiated an Environmental Stewardship Recognition Program to recognize corporate and nonprofit partners and other stakeholders who go above and beyond regulatory requirements to protect Florida's natural resources.
