TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - This week, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection exhibited at the 2019 International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) trade show, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship and awareness of Florida’s natural resources when fishing and recreating.
DEP reached approximately 700 visitors, highlighting the best fishing spots within Florida’s state parks, aquatic preserves and other managed lands. DEP also highlighted Florida’s coral reef conservation efforts and provided information on DEP’s Clean Boating Program, as well as environmental best practices and tips. Additionally, more than 80 people pledged to be a clean boater.
“As the state’s lead agency for environmental management and stewardship, we are excited to have had a presence at ICAST this year where we educated attendees on the importance of preserving and maintaining our environment,” said DEP Secretary Noah Valenstein. “Our state is known for its water resources and the many recreational opportunities they provide, which is why it’s important that we all work to protect Florida together.”
Secretary Noah Valenstein joined Governor Ron DeSantis and stakeholders for a walk around the show floor. Additionally, Secretary Valenstein participated in the Saltwater Media Summit with other environmental leaders to discuss multi-organization methods for protecting and restoring Florida's seagrass beds and coral reefs.
ICAST, the world’s largest sportfishing trade show, is the premier showcase for the latest innovations in fishing gear, accessories and apparel. The tradeshow was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
