FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s South District recently recognized Carl Veaux for his dedication, commitment and lifetime passion for encouraging community engagement for the preservation and protection of Florida’s natural resources.
“Carl has demonstrated exceptional leadership and endless contribution in encouraging awareness of Florida's natural resources,” said Jon Iglehart, director of DEP’s South District. “His work includes a broad range of successes, projects and positive community involvement.”
The South District is proud to celebrate Mr. Veaux’s notable achievements, including his advocacy for land conservation and wildlife protection. His efforts were instrumental in support of the acquisition of Babcock Ranch, one of the single largest purchases of conservation lands in the state’s history, and the city of Cape Coral’s acquisition of the historic Cape Coral Country Club for land conservation.
He was also influential in Cape Coral’s adoption of the burrowing owl as the city’s official bird in 2005 and promotion of the city’s setback ordinance protecting the bald eagle population.
Mr. Veaux’s dedication and enthusiasm have played a significant role in unifying the community in seeking solutions to protect the area’s natural resources.
