DEP presents Legendary Marine with a Florida Clean
and Resilient Marina flag and plaque.
Destin, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has designated Legendary Marine as a Clean and Resilient Marina in recognition of the marina’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices and emergency preparedness. The marina is the 19th in the state to receive
this recognition and the third in Okaloosa County.
“Legendary Marine has a record of resiliency to both natural and man-made disasters,” said DEP Northwest District Director Shawn Hamilton. “Their commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in their daily operations and marina design.”
To be designated as a Clean Marina, a facility must implement best management practices designed to protect Florida waterways. These practices address critical issues such as spill prevention and waste management. Clean and Resilient Marinas, like Legendary Marine, employ practices that achieve an additional level of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Legendary Marine in Destin has an emergency preparedness team, as well as staff who are trained in stormwater management. Storage facilities at the marina can withstand wind loads greater than 140 miles per hour, the main pilings can withstand storm surges from a Category 2 hurricane, and the structure is made of floating docks that can rise and fall with storm surges.
Lance R. Brown, Legendary Marine facility manager/safety coordinator, said: “We have worked hard, improving our policies and procedures, with the goal of earning the Clean and Resilient designation, which shows Legendary's commitment to being an ecologically responsible marina."
