Manatee Springs State Park to Host Public Meeting

DEP's Florida Park Service is in the process of updating the unit management plan for Manatee Springs State Park. Citizens are invited to attend a public meeting to learn about the proposed plans for the state park and provide their comments.

The public notice, agenda, draft plan and comment form are available online. Copies may also be obtained by emailing Mark.Abrizenski@dep.state.fl.us or calling 352-493-6072. There will be a brief presentation at 6 p.m. Following the presentation, staff will be available to answer questions and accept public comment. Additionally, the public is invited to review and submit comments to the Division of Recreation and Parks at FLStateParkPlanning@dep.state.fl.us until Jan. 23, 2018.

The following improvements are proposed for the updated Manatee Springs State Park management plan:

  • Install culverts and low water crossings on the access road to improve hydrology and ensure reliable vehicle access;
  • Replace paved boat ramp for improved launching and landing;
  • Replace boardwalk decking to maintain safe and convenient wildlife viewing, interpretation and river access;
  • Upgrade restrooms and concession building;
  • Connect restrooms/bathhouses to Levy County sewer;
  • Replace spring-run walkway and swimming access points; restoring portions of the natural spring-run stream shoreline.
