FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's South District presented former district employee Jeanette Wood with an Environmental Stewardship Award during the district's 2017 winter luncheon. Jeanette was recognized for bringing Florida's natural environment to life through her murals and artwork, which are displayed throughout the district office and inspire staff and visitors on a daily basis.
“It's an honor to recognize Jeanette for sharing her unique creativity and passion in a way that helps encourage appreciation and protection of Florida's natural resources," said Jon Iglehart, director of DEP's South District.
While
working as an employee for DEP's South District office nearly two decades ago, Jeanette used her
lunchtime and after-work hours to paint several five-by-fifteen foot murals of
Florida's natural landscape. These murals, still proudly displayed today,
enlighten and educate district visitors with a life-size view of the unique natural resources South Florida has to offer and helps them
understand the reasons behind the department's protection measures.
The South District Environmental Stewardship program recognizes those who are working alongside DEP to safeguard Florida’s natural resources.
