~The facility will be managed as a joint civilian, government and military research area~
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On behalf of the Florida Board of
Education, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has purchased a
four-story office building situated on 10.3 acres to support military training and technology innovation. Near Naval Support Activity
Orlando and adjacent to the University of Central Florida (UCF) main campus,
the complex will be managed as a joint civilian, government and military
research area.
"The department is proud to support local innovation and national security through this strategic acquisition," said David Clark, DEP deputy secretary for land and recreation. "We look forward to continuing our partnerships with local institutions and the military."
The complex will become a part of the Central Florida Research Park, which develops training simulations for military personnel. UCF is a global leader in the modeling and
simulation sector, which enables advances in medicine, education, industry and
national defense.
“The Partnership Complex is a model for state and local
government, private business, and education to support our national defense
effort as well as enhance the economy of the entire state,” said Dr. Daniel C. Holsenbeck, senior vice president for university relations at UCF. "UCF is pleased to be
one of the key players in this partnership."
Representative Clay
Ingram, who chairs the Florida Defense Support Task Force, stated, “This
action will serve to protect a vital national security asset and retain the associated
$6 billion industry and 73,000 jobs in the state of Florida.”
