Celebrate National Estuaries Day at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve

WHAT: National Estuaries Day WHEN: Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 WHERE: Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve HOW: Event is free and reservation is not required. The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) will celebrate National Estuaries Day on Friday, Sept. 29. Activities will include dozens of free, fun and educational activities, including marine animal touch tanks and estuary-themed games. Imagine what it's like to be a sea turtle hatchling, find out how we help track monarch butterflies and learn about our Apalachicola Bay Estuary from the Forgotten Coast Mermaid. Attendees can also tour ANERR's Nature Center with its three large aquariums filled with local estuarine marine life, an 80-foot long mural depicting the area ecosystems and a hands-on Bay Discovery Room. The Sea Turtles of the Forgotten Coast exhibit, also on display in the Nature Center, shows you what a sea turtle nest looks like below the sand, features videos of nesting sea turtles and hatchlings, and demonstrates what responsible beachgoers can do to help sea turtles!
