PORT RICHEY, Fla. – Today, the Florida Department
of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service conducted a ribbon-cutting
ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new day-use area at Werner-Boyce Salt
Springs State Park. New facilities include a new
walkway, boardwalk, kayak launch, parking lot and elevated restroom with observation
deck.
“Recreational areas provide
economic and quality of life benefits to local communities,” said Gary Clark, DEP deputy secretary of Land and Recreation. “The Florida Park Service has been committed
to providing quality resource-based outdoor recreation for citizens and visitors
for more than 80 years.”
The new facilities will help provide safe and convenient access to the park's natural resources by connecting visitors with opportunities for birdwatching, hiking, fishing and paddling. The new boardwalk provides a scenic journey over the wetland and access to the maritime hammock island where the
new kayak launch is located, helping visitors explore the interior of the park.
Werner-Boyce
Salt Springs State Park comprises 3,296 acres, including 4 miles of mangrove
lined coastline. The park
provides picturesque coastal habitat types for a wide variety of outdoor
resource-based recreational activities in one of the fastest growing areas of
the state. Visitors can enjoy fishing
and paddling the inlets and bayous that wander through the salt marsh.
