Ichetucknee Springs State Park and Troy Spring State Park to Host Public Hearing

DEP's Florida Park Service is in the process of updating the unit management plans for Ichetucknee Springs State Park and Troy Spring State Park. Citizens are invited to attend a public hearing to learn more about the proposed plans for the state parks and to provide their comments.

The public notice, agenda and draft plans are available online. Copies may also be obtained by emailing Robert.Soderholm@dep.state.fl.us or calling 386-497-4690. There will be a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. Following the presentation, staff will also be available for the duration of the hearing to answer questions and accept public comment. Additionally, the public is invited to review and submit comments to the Division of Recreation and Parks at FL_StateParkPlanning@dep.state.fl.us until April 4, 2017.  

The following improvements are proposed for the updated Ichetucknee Springs State Park management plan:

  • Improve and add visitor amenities in the South Use area, including picnic facilities, restrooms, bathhouse, tram waiting shelter and walkway;
  • Construct picnic facilities and replace restroom building in the North Use area; and
  • Extend hiking trails to connect the North and South use areas.

The following improvements are proposed for the updated Troy Spring State Park management plan:

  • Improve access to the springhead and create a shoreline swimming area;
  • Construct a boating access area along the Suwannee River with a floating dock, mooring facilities and boardwalk connection;
  • Construct an overlook and fishing platform at the confluence of the spring run and Suwannee River;
  • Improve the cabin/visitor center area, including landscape, walkway and interpretive enhancements;
  • Develop a new picnic area; and
  • Provide an equestrian staging and camping area in the southern portion of the park with trail connections to adjacent public lands.
