~ Nominations are due by May 15, 2017 ~

Southeast Florida – In support of DEP’s vision of creating strong community partnerships, safeguarding Florida’s natural resources and enhancing its ecosystems, DEP’s Southeast District (SED) has developed a new Superior Excellence Distinction Award Program to recognize an organization’s exceptional achievements in environmental stewardship, ensuring responsible use and protection of natural resources through conservation and sustainable practices.

The program recognizes businesses, industries, trade associations, professional organizations, local governments and non-profit organizations in Southeast Florida for proactive, innovative and exceptional achievements to reduce impacts on the environment beyond measures required by permit or rule. DEP's Southeast District encompasses the following seven counties: Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River.

To be considered for recognition, participants must demonstrate significant and measurable achievements that provide a direct benefit to the environment in one or more of the following categories:

  • Reducing environmental impacts
  • Conserving resources
  • Enhancing ecosystems
  • Restoring impacts

Other criteria that will be considered include management commitment, employee involvement, continuous improvement, environmental management systems, best management practices and community education and outreach.

Please review the program rules and instructions for details on how to apply. Nominations must be received on or before May 15, 2017 at 5 p.m. Submissions can be mailed to the Southeast District Office or sent to Southeast.District@dep.state.fl.us

Winners will be recognized during the Southeast District’s Open House in June 2017.
