DEP WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR OF WATER POLICY

~Stephen James brings experience in environmental public policy~

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Jon Steverson today announced the appointment of Stephen James as the new director of the Office of Water Policy. James will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and implementation of Florida's statewide water policy with water management districts and other agencies.

"Stephen will be an excellent addition to the department as the director of Water Policy," said DEP Secretary Jon Steverson. "His background in environmental and water policy, combined with his experience working with local governments, the legislature and the public and private sectors, will be of great benefit as we continue to partner with the water management districts, municipalities and other stakeholders on the state's important water matters."

James most recently served as the senior associate director of public policy and legislative staff attorney for the Florida Association of Counties, where he focused on environmental and agricultural matters. Prior to his work on behalf of the Florida Association of Counties, James represented a number of public and private clients on environmental, growth-management and water-resource matters as a lobbyist and consultant in Tallahassee. He has also practiced environmental and land-use law for several law firms in Miami and Seattle.

James earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami, where he served on the Miami Law Review. He also holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Florida International University.
