EXPLORE FLORIDA’S GREENWAYS AND
TRAILS THIS OCTOBER
~Partake in hiking, biking or paddling events across the state this month~
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection invites
Florida residents and visitors to celebrate Greenways and Trails Month by
exploring the more than
8,000 miles
of land-based trails and
4,000 miles of paddling trails located throughout the state.
“Greenways and Trails Month is the perfect opportunity
for everyone to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty Florida has to offer,”
said Florida Park Service Director Donald Forgione. “Whether you enjoy biking,
hiking or paddling, there is sure to be an event for you this month at one of
our Florida state parks.”
October is full of statewide activities appealing to
all of Florida’s residents and visitors. Paddling enthusiasts can join the
Paddle Florida Suwannee River Wilderness Trail trip from Oct. 17-24, for a scenic
and beautiful excursion. For those who enjoy biking, the Ride of the Living
Dead cycling event will take place on Oct. 29 in Ocala, where you are encouraged to wear
your favorite Halloween costume. If hiking is your hobby, there will be a ranger-led walk through the Devil's
Millhopper Geological State Park on Oct. 22. On this outing you will get the
chance to learn about the history and nature of the park, all while
enjoying the great outdoors.
