DEP TO HOST FREE MEDICINE COLLECTION EVENT
AT COSTCO
~Properly disposing unused medications to help protect the environment~
TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Division of Waste Management is hosting a free medicine collection event, "Operation Medicine Cabinet, ” at Costco on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011.
The collection event will properly dispose of unused or expired prescriptions of individual residents of Tallahassee and Leon County to help prevent misuse and protect the environment and water supplies. Medications not properly disposed, such as flushing them down the toilet, can cause contamination to Florida’s aquatic environment.
An educational booth on how to properly dispose of medications throughout the year will be hosted by representatives of DEP’s ‘Easy As One’ initiative. They also will be distributing one day State Park passes to participants (while supplies last).
The event is sponsored by DEP, Southern Waste Information eXchange (SWIX), Costco, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Health, Leon County Public Works Department, 94.9 TNT, Florida Pharmacy Association, Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, Florida State University and Comcast.
