WHITING PARK MARINA
RECEIVES CLEAN MARINA DESIGNATION
~Marina recognized as an outstanding environmental steward~
MILTON, Fla. – Today,
the Florida Department of Environmental Protection joined the Clean
Boating
Partnership to recognize Naval Air Station Whiting Field's Whiting Park
Marina for its commitment to
environmental stewardship and the protection of Florida's waterways. The
Whiting Park Marina joins nearly 300 other marinas as a member of the
Florida Clean Marina Program.
“DEP applauds NAS
Whiting Field for its commitment to protecting Florida’s environment and is
proud to recognize the facility for its accomplishments,” said Northwest
District Director Shawn Hamilton. “The best management practices used by
Whiting Park Marina help protect our waterways and ensure a vibrant, safe and
healthy community.”
Whiting
Field’s Whiting Park Marina is a
water recreation and picnic park serving active duty and retired military. Located on the
Blackwater River, east of downtown Milton, the family-orientated facility offers many amenities, including sheltered
picnic pavilions with barbecue grills, a swimming area, playground and boat rentals.
The
facility also hosts an annual kid’s
fishing day, teaching children about marine life and fishing ethics firsthand.
Florida’s Clean Marinas go above
and beyond required environmental regulations by adopting safeguards that keep
solvents, sewage, fuel and oil out of the water. By educating boaters and
improving operations at marine facilities, Florida’s Clean Marinas are helping
to ensure a sustainable future for the environment, boaters and the marine
industry.
