Enjoy a free lecture at the St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve Visitor’s Center on Monday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m., featuring Dr. Brian Balmer discussing the effects of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill on bottlenose dolphins along the Gulf of Mexico coast.

Balmer, a scientist at the Hollings Marine Laboratory in Charleston, S.C., is leading a project assessing the long-term trends and population structure of the St. Joseph Bay bottlenose dolphin following the oil spill.

Balmer worked with the Chicago Zoological Society’s Sarasota Dolphin Research Program for 12 years and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Wildlife Science and Biology.
