James L. Hargrove will
lecture on how area coastline changes have impacted Cape St. George,
Cape San Blas and Dog Island lighthouses. Discussions will include
how the barrier islands and coastlines of and Franklin and Gulf counties developed and how they
have shifted over the decades.
Mr. Hargrove resides on
St. George Island since retiring from
the University of Georgia in 2012. After earning a B.S. degree in Biological
Oceanography from the University of Washington, graduate studies led him to a career teaching and
researching cell biology at Emory University and nutrition science at the
University of Georgia. He volunteers as a
docent at the Cape St. George Lighthouse Museum and assists with field work at
the Apalachicola Research Reserve.
