Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report
EOC Activation Level: Level 2
EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
-
Rain chances will gradually increase over the next few days as a weak cold front moves into the region.
-
Some storms in the western Panhandle could be strong with gusty winds and brief downpours before dissipating later this morning.
-
Otherwise, rain and storm activity across the state is expected to be isolated to widely scattered in nature during the afternoon and evening hours.
-
Another round of patchy fog development possible tonight across portions of North Florida and interior portions of Central and South Florida.
-
Lingering ocean swells will continue a moderate to high risk for rip currents for most East Coast and Panhandle beaches today.
-
According to the Florida Forest Service, there are 121 active wildfires across the state burning approximately 26,172 acres.
-
Relative humidity values in the 38-48% range across the North and Central Peninsula combined with south to southeast winds of 5-15 mph and gusts to 20 mph will still hamper some containment efforts and allow new fires to start. Any thunderstorms that develop today could contain occasional lightning strikes which can spark new wildfires or reignite existing ones.
