Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:

  • A major shift in the weather pattern can be expected today as arctic air makes its way into the state.
  • Its a cold start this morning across the Panhandle, and it isn't going to warm up much today, as arctic air has been moving into the region behind Sunday's cold front.
  • The cold front will finally push through the Peninsula today bringing isolated to widely scattered showers along with it (25-35% chance of rain).
  • Arctic high pressure over the U.S. Plains will usher much colder and drier air into the state, and it will remain here for the next several days.
  • On top of this, gusty winds of 15-20 mph will persist across the state throughout the day with stronger wind gusts of 20-30 mph along the Panhandle.
    • The combination of the colder air moving in and elevated winds will cause feels-like temperatures to struggle to reach above the teens and 20s until about midday - Extreme Cold Warning until 12:00 PM CST.
  • Temperatures across the Panhandle and most of the Big Bend to struggle to reach 50-degrees.
    • The rest of Northeast Florida and the Nature Coast will see high temperatures closer to the 50s. Central and South Florida will reach the 70s to middle 80s.
  • A very cold night can be expected with hazardous low temperatures and very dangerous wind chills.
  • Clear skies and elevated winds will cause low temperatures to fall into the upper teens to middle 20s across North Florida, upper 20s to middle 30s across Central Florida and 40s to lower 50s across South Florida tonight.
  • Freeze Warnings have been issued across North Florida and northern Central Florida (just north of the I-4 corridor) ahead of dangerous sub-freezing temperatures.
  • Very dangerous wind chills will develop across North Florida by the sunrise on Tuesday reaching the teens.
    • Isolated spots in the Panhandle could see single digit feels-like temperatures.
    • Extreme Cold Warnings can be expected tonight throughout North Florida.
    • Cold Weather Advisories will extend into the Peninsula towards Lake Okeechobee where feels-like temperatures in the middle 20s to middle 30s can be expected.
  • Breezy winds and ocean swells of 2-5' across the state will lead to a moderate to high risk for rip currents for all beaches today.
