EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
-
A cold start this morning throughout North Florida and portions of Central Florida with wind chills this morning near and below freezing.
-
Cold Weather Advisories remain in effect until 10:00 AM EST/9:00 AM CST for bitterly cold wind chills across the Panhandle and portions of the Big Bend.
-
Yesterday’s cold front will finally push off the southern Peninsula and away from the Keys today bringing a few sprinkles and allowing for much colder and drier air to sink into the state.
-
Mostly sunny skies can be expected with a few clouds mixed in, but breezy wind gusts of 15-20 mph across the state will make conditions feel cooler.
-
Elevated winds and very dry air will lead to an elevated wildfire risk statewide today as relative humidity values will fall well below critical thresholds (25-30%) over ongoing drought conditions.
-
Localized dangerous wildfire conditions cannot be ruled out with the worse drought conditions and very dry vegetation.
-
High temperatures will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s across North Florida, middle 50s to lower 60s across Central Florida and middle 60s to lower 70s across South Florida.
-
Colder air pushing through the state and lingering breezy winds will create cold conditions statewide overnight and into Wednesday morning.
-
Low temperatures will fall into the middle to upper 20s across North Florida, lower to middle 30s throughout interior Central Florida and upper 30s to lower 40s along the coasts, upper 30s to middle 40s across interior South Florida and middle 40s to lower 50s along the coasts.
-
A Freeze Watch will likely become a Freeze Warning tonight throughout the Suwannee Valley and interior portions of North-Central Florida ahead of near or below freezing temperatures overnight.
-
Feels-like temperatures will be sub-freezing (20s and lower 30s) throughout North and Central Florida by sunrise Wednesday morning.
-
Even northern portions of South Florida will see feels-like temperatures in the 30s.
-
Cold Weather Advisories (Wind Chill Advisories) will go into effect nearly statewide overnight.
-
Instances of frost may develop in more shaded areas by early Wednesday morning.
-
Breezy northerly to northwesterly winds will lead to ocean swells of 3-5' and localized swells of 6' statewide, also creating a moderate to high risk for rip currents.
