Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Another cold start this morning across much of North Florida and northern Central Florida as Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories will remain in effect through 8:00 AM EST due to sub-freezing temperatures this morning and areas of frost development.
  • Plenty of sunshine courtesy of high pressure over the southeastern U.S. and eastern gulf waters will allow for conditions to warm up from the cool down earlier this week.
  • Elevated wildfire conditions will persist throughout Northeast Florida with relative humidity values falling below critical thresholds this afternoon (15-30%).
    • Ongoing drought conditions will allow for sensitive wildfire conditions to continue throughout northern and western Florida despite relative humidity values begin to recover.
  • High temperatures will return to the middle 60s to lower 70s throughout North and Central Florida and middle to upper 70s across South Florida this afternoon.
    • While these temperatures are warmer than the last day or so they will still be a few degrees below normal for this time of year.
  • Some instances of patchy frost may develop overnight and early Thursday morning along interior portions of the Big Bend and Northeast Florida.
  • Low temperatures will fall into the upper 30s to lower 40s across interior Northeast Florida, middle to upper 40s across the rest of North Florida and Central Florida, 50s and 60s across South Florida and near 70-degrees for the Keys.
  • A moderate risk for rip currents returns for the Panhandle and most East Coast beaches today; however, there is a lingering high risk along Southeast Florida beaches. Southwest Florida beaches will also see a moderate risk.
  • Ocean swells continue to push southward and decline across the Peninsula allowing for wave heights of reach 2-4’.
    • Greater breaking waves of 4-6’ will be possible along Southeast Florida beaches through the afternoon.
  • The St. Johns River at Astor is just about to fall below minor flood stage, but will hover between Action Stage (bank-full) and minor flood stage for the next several days.
