Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed this morning over portions of the northern Peninsula as an upper-level disturbance approaches from the northeast.
  • Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop across the state throughout the daytime hours, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours, with the help of the upper-level disturbance and tropical moisture (50-85% chance of rain).
  • The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather along Northeast Florida near the I-10 corridor where isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may develop.
    • These strong to severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts (50-60 mph), and heavy downpours.
  • Tropical moisture statewide will lead to an increased risk for flash flooding and ponding of water, and the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Flash Flooding.
    • Rainfall totals of 1-3" can be expected throughout the state, with locally higher totals upwards of 4-6" possible with repeated heavy downpours.
  • Hot and humid conditions will persist statewide as high temperatures reach the 90s this afternoon.
    • Heat index values will also reach well into the upper 90s and triple digits (100-111-degrees) this afternoon, and Heat Advisories will go into effect later this morning across North and North-Central Florida for dangerous heat and humidity.
  • Showers and thunderstorms will gradually move from east to west throughout the evening and overnight hours, and some may linger along the Big Bend and West Florida overnight (40-70% chance of rain).
  • Low temperatures will fall into the middle to upper 70s and lower 80s overnight.
  • A moderate to high risk of rip currents across most Panhandle beaches, and a moderate risk of rip currents across most East Coast beaches is expected today.
