Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • High pressure over the Gulf Coast will keep rain chances isolated to widely scattered mostly across the interior Florida Peninsula this afternoon and evening (20-30% chance of rain).
  • Locally strong thunderstorms cannot be ruled out along the sea breeze, and may be capable of producing frequent lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.
  • Dangerously hot and humid conditions, especially throughout North and Central Florida, can be expected this afternoon.
    • High temperatures will reach well into the 90s statewide, with portions of Northeast Florida seeing triple digits (100-102-degrees).
  • Heat index values will creep into dangerous criteria as they reach well into the triple digits (100-112-degrees).
    • Heat Advisories will go into effect later this morning throughout North and Central Florida for heat index values of 108-112-degrees.
  • Mostly dry and quiet conditions can be expected overnight as shower and thunderstorm activity dissipates later this evening (10-20% chance of rain).
  • A moderate to high risk for rip currents can be expected along Panhandle beaches, with numerous East Coast beaches also seeing a moderate risk for rip currents.
  • Central Tropical Atlantic: A tropical wave located about 1,000 miles east-southeast of Lesser Antilles is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear only marginally conducive for development during the next day or so as the system moves west-northwestward around 10 mph. By the middle of next week, environmental conditions are forecast to become unfavorable for further development. This system poses no threat to Florida.
