Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Rain chances will be significantly lower statewide today, courtesy of a large area of high pressure.
  • Only an isolated to widely scattered shower or thunderstorm looks to develop later this afternoon (25-45% chance of rain), quite the change of pace from earlier in the week!
  • Southwesterly flow along the Florida Panhandle will allow for slightly elevated shower and thunderstorm coverage (40-60% chance of rain).
  • Given the recent days of heavy rainfall, any repeated rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity may be capable of isolated ponding water and nuisance flooding over low-lying/poor drainage and urban areas.
  • The primary weather-related concern is the dangerous heat and humidity; triple digit feels-like temperatures
  • Heat Advisories will go into effect for North and Central Florida this afternoon as heat index values are forecast to reach 107 to 112-degreeswith little to no rain relief in the afternoon.
  • Be sure to practice heat safety today! Stay hydrated, limit strenuous time outdoors, wear light-weight and light-colored clothing.
  • An elevated risk of rip currents can be expected along Florida Panhandle and East Coast beaches.
  • The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave over the central Atlantic, currently with a low (20%) chance of development over the next 7 days, this system poses no threat to Florida at this time.
