Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

Meteorological Summary:
 
  • Numerous showers and thunderstorms can be expected across the Panhandle and Big Bend today as a cold front approaches from the west (65-100% chance of rain).
  • Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather across the Panhandle and Western Big Bend as strong to severe thunderstorms may be capable of producing lightning, damaging wind gusts (45-65 mph), a few tornadoes, and heavy downpours.
  • Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Flash Flooding across the Panhandle today as localized flooding and ponding of water will be possible over urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas.
  • High temperatures in the 70s and 80s statewide this afternoon.
  • Winds gusting up to 15-25 mph in the Florida Panhandle and up to 15-20 mph in the Peninsula this afternoon.
  • St. Johns River at Astor remains in minor flood stage.
  • High risk for rip currents along Panhandle with elevated risk along Northeast and Southeast Coast.
  • Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms and the possibility for severe weather and flash flooding will continue along the Florida Panhandle overnight hours (60-90% chance of rain).
  • Low temperatures in the 60s and 70s statewide overnight.
  • Areas of patchy to dense fog and low clouds will develop overnight and into early Saturday morning statewide, drifting offshore and lingering over nearshore coastal waters during the day.
  • In total, there were 20 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes in the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
