Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • The active and unsettled weather pattern continues across the Florida Panhandle as severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing all hazards.
  • The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for Severe Weather across the western Panhandle towards the Apalachicola River, a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) extending just west of the Capital City, and a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for the rest of the state.
  • The primary threats associated with scattered showers and thunderstorms include damaging wind gusts (50-70 mph), isolated tornadoes, damaging hail, and heavy downpours.
  • An elevated risk for flash flooding continues across the western Panhandle as additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy downpours across saturated grounds.
  • A Heat Advisory remains in place across the Florida Keys as warm and humid conditions will make heat indices break triple digits (108-112).
  • Nearly all beaches statewide can expect a moderate to high risk for rip currents, with a low risk along isolated portions of the West Coast and Southeast.
  • Showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organizations in association with a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands (Invest 92L). Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the next day or two. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has indicated there is a high chance for development over the next 48 hours (80%), and over the next 7 days (90%). Invest 92L poses no threat to Florida over the next 7-10, at least.
