Meteorological Summary:
  • Strong to severe thunderstorms develop over the Panhandle this afternoon; locally damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and flooding downpours possible.
  • Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms for the Peninsula (60-90% chance of rain); a few may be strong.
  • Marginal Risk for Flash Flooding (level 1 of 4) over the Panhandle, Big Bend, and Peninsula today; urban/street flooding possible.
  • Heat index values of 107-110 degrees possible across the western Panhandle; temperatures improving elsewhere, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
  • An elevated rip current risk continues for many Panhandle and Atlantic beaches; locally high threat along some Panhandle and Northeast Florida beaches.
  • Continuing to monitor Invest 94L in the tropical Atlantic; the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is outlooking a 60% (medium) chance of development over the next 5 days. This system does not pose a threat to Florida at this time.
  • The NHC is outlooking a 20% (low) chance of tropical development over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico over the next 5 days. This potential area of development does not pose a threat to Florida at this time.
