Meteorological Summary:
- Very hot temperatures will persist nearly statewide today, with Heat Advisories in effect for much of North and Central Florida (heat indices of 107-112 degrees possible).
- Excessive Heat Warnings in effect for portions of the Big Bend and Nature Coast; heat index values of 110-115 degrees possible.
- Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms develop over Northeast Florida and the Peninsula this afternoon (60-80% chance of rain).
- Strong to severe thunderstorms develop during the peak heating hours; locally damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and localized flooding possible.
- The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic, Invest 94L. There is a medium (60% chance) of development over the next 5 days. Invest 94L does not pose a threat to Florida at this time.
- An elevated wildfire threat continues for portions of North Florida.
- A moderate risk of rip currents can be expected for most Panhandle and Atlantic beaches; locally greater risk for Gulf County beaches.
