DCOA has
distributed the FREE Long-Term Care Guide to several locations city-wide
including senior centers, many libraries and recreation centers and
churches. To get your FREE copy of the guide, stop by or call us at

This guide is intended to help you understand Long-Term Care and what resources are
available in the District. You will find a number of tools that will
assist you in analyzing your current situation and help you to start
thinking about future needs. We suggest that you use these tools now as a
resource to begin planning for your future LTC regardless of age.

The Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) is in the
process of implementing a new Medicaid long term care financial eligibility
policy. The policy will impact individuals and couples applying for or
receiving Medicaid coverage of institutional long term care services or
services under one of the District’s two home and community based services
(HCBS) waiver programs. Therefore, DHCF and DCOA’s Aging and Disability Resource Center want to ensure that
advocates for Medicaid long term care applicants and beneficiaries in the
District are well-informed about the policy and able to assist their clients
with questions that arise once the policy is implemented. Please plan to join
the training!
DHCF is hosting this one-day training on the following
dates:
1. Thursday, January 29th 2. Wednesday, February 4th 3. Thursday, February 5th

The D.C. Office on Aging is preparing for the Annual Salute
to District of Columbia Centenarians. All centenarians will be invited to attend a
special luncheon in their honor. If you or someone you know will be

Nigel John, General Services Facility Services Specialist
Nigel John joins DCOA,
General Services’ Facility Services Specialist. Mr. Nigel John is a
native of Trinidad. He migrated to the US at age twenty. Nigel has worked for Inx International for twenty-four years as an Ink Technician. He has three beautiful
children and loves fishing, eating
different types of food, and traveling. He also enjoys working with building and engineering and would like to continue his career in that field.

Freddie Lebrun, General Services Human Resources Officer
Freddie Lebrun originally hails from Brooklyn, NY and is an
alumnus of Hofstra University School of Law and the University of Michigan-Ann
Arbor. She joins the DCOA General Services Team as
the Human Resources Officer. Prior to joining the DC Office on
Aging, Freddie served as the Recruitment Manager for the DC office of
TransPerfect Legal Solutions, a subsidiary of TransPerfect Translations Inc.,
the largest privately held language service provider in the world. During her
tenure, she served in numerous capacities, including recruitment, human
resources and operations. With her varied and diverse background, she is
looking forward to bringing to bear her experience and enthusiasm to become a
valued member of the DC Office on Aging. Additionally, Freddie is a huge sports
fan who loves rooting for her beloved alma mater, the University of Michigan
and the NY Giants.
