Hundreds of District residents attended the Generations Community Festival: A Celebration of Life held at the Gateway Pavilion in Ward 8 on Saturday. The event featured activities for the whole family including workshops on interior design and long-term care services; activities for children; information and resources for seniors, persons living with disabilities and Veterans; fresh produce and meats from Whole Food Market; and free gently used clothing from A Wider Circle Pop Up Clothing Boutique.
Additionally, senior vendors had the opportunity to sell the handmade items, while live music and entertainment was also featured on the main stage hosted by WPGC 95.5 FM's Pablo and Tati.

During National Preparedness Month, DCOA wants to ensure more residents are are aware of Smart911. The office has partnered with the Office of Unified Communications to provide community presentations to churches, organizations, and other community based groups to help get the word out.
Smart911 is a free online safety profile that can provide first responders with vital information on persons that have called 911 for assistance.

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched the Elder Justice website. The site offers resources for victims, family members, prosecutors, researchers, and anyone who works with older adults.
- Victims and family members will find information about how to report elder abuse and financial exploitation in all 50 states and the territories.
- Federal, State, and local prosecutors will find three different databases containing sample pleadings and statutes.
- Researchers in the elder abuse field may access a database containing bibliographic information for thousands of articles and reviews.
- Practitioners -- including professionals of all types who work with elder abuse and its consequences -- will find information about resources available to help them prevent elder abuse and assist those who have already been abused, neglected or exploited.
The 2014 Mayor’s Annual Disability Awareness Exposition will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G St. NW, Great Hall, Washington, D.C. 20001.
