Senior Wellness Participants Send DCOA Note of Thanks

Model Cities Senior Wellness Center Seniors Thank DCOA

Model Cities Senior Wellness Center sent DCOA a thank you card to show their gratitude for the newly installed salad bar.

Last month DCOA added salad bars to the food options for participants at each of the wellness centers across the city.  Wellness participants that eat the meal offered at the center now can create their own fresh salad and fruit or enjoy the hot meal.

Model Cities, located in Ward 5 is one of six senior wellness centers that are now featuring the new salad bar.  For more information, visit www.dcoa.dc.gov or call 202-724-5626 to locate the center nearest you.

Volunteers in Wards 5, 6 and 7 are Needed

The Age-Friendly Block by-Block Walk is one way Age-Friendly DC seeks to make the District a better place to live for those who are 60 and older.

Walk participants will identify neighborhood assets and issues needing attention all through the lens of older DC residents.

Why? Because what's good for older residents can be good for those with different mobility needs-wheelchair, tricycle, walker or stroller.

The data will help the city improve policy and practice to make daily life better for everyone.

Volunteers of all ages are needed to participate.

Teams will be organized to walk neighborhoods divided by Single Member District (SMD) areas. But you don’t need to be a resident of a particular SMD to volunteer. You just need to want to help.

Volunteers are needed!

Sign up today to be a volunteer for the Age-FriendlyDC Block by Block Walk.  Find out more at http://agefriendly.dc.gov/

Be Prepared for Emergencies

With Smart911, residents are able to create a Safety Profile at www.smart911.com that is automatically displayed to 9-1-1 during emergency calls. The profile can include home and work addresses associated with mobile phone numbers, specific medical conditions and disabilities, all family members, vehicle information and even information about pets. Smart911 data is private and secure, is only used for emergency responses, and is only made available to the 911 system in the event of an emergency call.

To find out how you can host a sign-up day for your group, organization or residence building, contact darlene.nowlin@dc.gov or call 202-724-5622.
