Do you need to replace your driver license or identification card because it has been lost, stolen, or damaged? If so, then how do you know if you can request one online, or if an in-person visit is required? The answer is simple. If you were issued a driver license or ID card on or after May 1, 2014, then you can request a replacement credential online. Why? Your driver license or ID card is compliant with Federal and local government security standards for REAL ID and Limited Purpose credentials.
Since DC DMV began issuing Limited Purpose credentials on May 1, 2014, all Limited Purpose credentials comply with the established security standards and will allow customers to request a replacement driver license or ID card online.
However, if your driver license or ID card was issued prior to May 1, 2014, then DC DMV will replace your old credential with a REAL ID compliant one, which is identified by the black star in the top right-hand side corner. To do so, an in-person visit to a DC DMV Service Center is required so that your source documents can be validated. You will be required to bring in one proof of identity, one proof of Social Security number, and two proofs of DC residency. It is important for you to visit the agency's website at dmv.dc.gov to see the list of acceptable documents. Also, your full legal name should be the same on all of your documents.

Recently, customers have contacted DC DMV with questions about what documentation to include when submitting a request for adjudication. DC DMV needs evidence that you did not commit the violation listed on the ticket. There are different scenarios on the agency's Contest Parking Ticket - First Level Review website page. One of the examples may fit your situation. If so, include the required documentation with your request for adjudication. If you still have a question, tweet us or send a Facebook message prior to contesting the ticket.
