Since November of 2013, DC DMV has been mailing driver licenses and identification cards to customers, as they are no longer issued over the counter.
DC DMV transitioned to the central issuance process in part because it is a motor vehicle industry standard that enables the agency to more securely provide customers with their credentials.
Take a look at DC DMV's central issuance Frequently Asked Questions for more information about this process. If you still have a question, then send us a tweet or Facebook message. DC DMV responds to questions 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
If you submit a picture with your request for adjudication, make sure that you include identifying street signs and buildings. By doing so, you are providing the hearing examiner with more information to evaluate when deciding your case. Once a decision has been rendered, DC DMV will notify you in writing. Don't like the outcome? Then, you have the option to appeal the ticket decision.
All DC DMV locations will be closed on Saturday, February 15 and Monday, February 17 in observance of the Washington's Birthday Holiday. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, February 18. Expect high volume before and after the holiday. "Skip the Trip" and use DC DMV's online and mail services.
