1. PCSB Workshop on Web-based Parent & Community Engagement on July 13th 1:00pm

In response to school leaders survey responses and parent feedback, the PCSB is sponsoring a workshop for school leaders, entitled, “Meeting Enrollment Targets, and Increasing Parent and Community Engagement.” The workshop will teach school staff to use web-based applications to engage parents and community members.  Feedback from parent surveys about what engages them and how they make enrollment decisions will be shared. School leaders will learn how to use this information to benefit schools and families.   For questions, contact Nona Richardson at nrichardson@dcpubliccharter.com.  To register, see the flyer found here

3. PMF Data Validation

In April and May during phase 1 validation, LEAs had the opportunity to confirm re-enrollment and demographic data for the 2010-2011 PMF. These validated numbers will be in the “Student Profile” and re-enrollment sections of their preliminary PMF report cards LEAs will receive on September 20th, 2011. During the second phase of data validation, LEAs and PCSB will be validating DC CAS, attendance and HS metrics.

  •  Framework level DC CAS (e.g., 3rd-5th and 6th-8th proficiency rates and advanced rates, gateway rates) and attendance summary data will be made available to LEAs by July 22nd, 2011. Schools will be given two weeks, until August 8th, 2011, to validate their DC CAS and attendance statistics.
  •  Summary statistics on SAT, PSAT, ACT, AP, graduation rate, College Acceptance rate, and 9th grade-on-track-to-graduate will be made available to high schools around August 22nd, 2011. High Schools will be given approximately 2 weeks, until September 6th, 2011, to validate these metrics.

The data dissemination process will be the same as it was in phase 1, in which, each LEA will be asked to download their PMF summary statistics and the student level data file from our FTP server, and complete the online data validation form.  More specific guidelines around the phase 2 data validation process will be provided later. For more information around our phase 1 data validation process, please follow this link.

The rest of the 2010-2011 PMF validation timeline remains as follows:

September 20 :  PCSB sends 2010-2011 preliminary PMF results and student level PMF data files to schools

September 20-October 11, 2011: LEAs and PCSB data analyst work one-on-one to address concerns and questions about data

September 20-October 21, 2011: LEAs submit online validation form to confirm 2010-2011 PMF results

Early November 2011: 2010-2011 PMF School Performance Reports Released to Public

4. Revised Pilot 2009-2010 PMF Report Cards and Revisions to the 2010-2011 PMF

Revised pilot 2009-2010 PMF report cards will be available on July 8, 2011. These reports reflect the revisions to the PMF that will be used for the 2010-2011 school year and contain 2009-2010 data. These reports are embargoed and should not be made public. The Public Charter School Board (PCSB) will not make decisions based upon the pilot results. You do not need to validate these reports as the data was validated in Fall 2010 as part of the original pilot release. If you have questions about the data on these pilot reports contact Ashok Oli at aoli@dcpubliccharter.com; if you have questions about the metrics or changes to the PMF contact Clara Hess at chess@dcpubliccharter.com .

Revised report cards contain several changes outlined below and more in detail on the PMF wiki.

Overview of Revisions to the PMF

Median Growth Percentile replaces PLOT/ ALOT for Progress

On this 2009-2010 pilot report we used one version of Median Growth Percentile (MGP) and 2009 and 2010 DC CAS results to give LEAs a sense of this data. OSSE, PCSB, and DCPS are currently working with a contractor to finalize a MGP model for use on the 2010-2011 PMF. While the two MGP models produce similar results there may be differences in the model that yield slight differences in results. To learn more about MGP, please click here.
  • Finance, Governance, and Compliance not on the report card. Governance indicators have been moved to the compliance framework.
  • New weighting for Indicators
  • The Elementary and Middle school frameworks are combined when appropriate to keep grades within a school or campus together rather than one school receiving two PMFs.
  • Floors/Targets and Tier cutoffs adjusted

Note: The high school framework will have AP scores as well as the option of IB scores and ACT (optional) in addition to SAT for the 2010-2011 school year; however that data was not available for the 2009-2010 pilot PMF.

The following changes will be in effect for the 2010-2011 PMF Reports:

  •  No 2010-2011 PMF for non-standard schools. Early Childhood programs, Adult Ed/GED schools and Special Education schools will be using accountability plans for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school year. Task forces are in place to continue to build out the non-standard frameworks. More information about these task forces can be found here.
  •  No mission specific measures for 2010-1011 or 2011-2012 PMF reports. The Mission Specific Task Forces has been meeting – more information about this task forces can be found here.
  •  No alternate gateway for ES, MS. A working group is being formed to investigate the possibility of alternative gateways for bilingual and immersion schools. Similarly, work is being done to investigate the possibility of using an alternative assessment instead of the DC CAS for 3rd grade ELA and 8th grade math gateways.
  •  Optional HS Achievement International Baccalaureate indicator added to the required AP. Optional HS Gateway ACT indicator added in addition to the required SAT.

5. OLAMS Shuts Down Thursday, June 30th

OLAMS will be shutting down at the close of business on Thursday, June 30, 2011.  Please make sure you have entered all your data into OLAMS by that time, especially (but not limited to):

  • All Attendance Data
  • All Withdrawal Information

Note #1: You do not have to enter Withdrawal Information for students who are re-enrolling at your school in the Fall.

Note #2: The Withdrawal Reason “Graduated” should only be used for students exiting Grade 12 or equivalent.  If your school has commencement or promotion ceremonies for Kindergarten, Grade 3, Grade 6, Grade 8, etc., make sure you use the Withdrawal Reason “Transfer to Other LEA” or “Transfer Within LEA.”

You will not be able to make changes to your 2010-2011 OLAMS data after June 30, 2011.

9. Charter School Building for Sale

1851 9th Street, NW is an approximately 30,000 square foot building located at the southeast corner of 9th and T Street, NW. The building has four stories plus a lower level with well-sized floor plates and a roof deck with 360° views of the DC skyline.
