The mission of the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (OAA) is to ensure that the full range of health, education, employment, social services, safety, business and economic development information, services and opportunities are accessible to the District’s African immigrant communities. 

By serving as the liaison between the District’s African immigrant communities, District government agencies and the Mayor, OAA aims to:  Improve the quality of life of the District’s diverse African born constituencies and their children; Increase civic and public engagement in the District’s African immigrant communities; and Support community development.

The 21st annual Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital (EFF) continues with the screening of Fold, Crumple, Crush: The Art of El Anatsui.  The film is being screened in conjunction with the National Museum of African Art’s upcoming exhibition, “Earth Matters: Land as Material and Metaphor in the Arts of Africa”. Walter Reed Interim Use Survey

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), acting as the Walter Reed Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA), recently engaged the Urban Land Institute (ULI Washington) to convene a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) to examine the feasibility and potential of temporary uses on the District’s portion of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center. ANC 4A03 Commissioner Stephen Whatley is providing a Walter Reed Interim Use Survey for any Ward 4 resident and will compile the results to present to TAP for consideration as a part of their recommendations.
