Letter from Muriel

Dear Neighbors,

With this inclement weather, I want to encourage everyone to take proper safety precautions and the utmost care if you’re traveling.  Please visit snow.dc.gov to keep up to date with all important information about closures and updates.  Please also visit wmata.com/snow for weather related information and updates from Metro.  If you plan to travel with your vehicle, please travel at an appropriate speed and never pass a plow while it’s cleaning the road.  Pepco also released a storm preparation handbook that you can find in the Announcements section.

Tomorrow, I’m co-hosting Public Service and the Women of Washington along with my three female colleagues on Council.  This event will celebrate women’s history month and the legacy of the women who have made our success a reality.  Invite all your neighbors and come join us for the festivities.  For more information, please refer to the Events section.

Metro News

Winter Weather Service Advisory

MetroRail

Trains are operating on a regular weekday schedule with no reported issues or delays at this time.  However, you may encounter minor delays due to snow and ice clearing efforts, as equipment that removes snow and ice from the third rail operates between regularly scheduled trains.  Please allow additional travel time.  Also note that service levels may change based on conditions; always check wmata.com before starting your trip or sign up for MetroAlerts to receive updated information by email or text message.

Metro is also encouraging customers to sign up for MetroAlerts email and text messages for up-to-the-minute information about weather-related service changes on Metrobus or Metrorail.  To sign up, visit wmata.com/metroalerts.

For more Metro snow information, visit wmata.com/snow.

MetroBus

Certain commuter bus routes are cancelled today, while some other routes are operating with slightly reduced service.  Check the bus alerts page for updates.  Other routes – including major routes in the District – are operating with near normal service.  Bus service may be reduced or even possibly suspended if conditions deteriorate.  For this reason, it is important that you get where you need to be prior to the worst of the storm.  Metro hopes to give two hours notice prior to any suspension of bus service.  Because your safety is always our highest priority, it may be necessary to detour some routes off of hills and other problem areas.

MetroAccess

Due to the expected winter storm and potentially difficult road conditions, Metro is canceling all MetroAccess paratransit service today.  Customers who wish to reschedule their trip for a future date should call the MetroAccess reservations center at 301-562-5360.

At this time, Metrorail service is planning to operate on or close to a regular weekday schedule. Metrobus service may be affected by weather conditions, including the possibility pre-planned snow route adjustments based on weather conditions.  View Metrobus pre-planned snow adjustments.

Metro Track Work – March 8 – 10

Buses replace trains on portions of Orange and Blue lines; single tracking on Red, Green and Yellow lines.

The ongoing effort to rebuild and upgrade the Metrorail system to provide safer and more reliable service will continue over the weekend of March 8-10, on all lines. The work will begin at 10:00 pm Friday and continue through system closing on Sunday.

Red Line

  • Trains will single track between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue to allow for track renewal and communication system upgrades.
  • Throughout the weekend, trains between Shady Grove and Glenmont will operate every 20 minutes.
  • Between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will operate between Shady Grove and Judiciary Square, resulting in service about every 10 minutes between those stations.
  • Customers on the eastern side of the Red Line should allow about 10 minutes of additional travel time.
