Mission:

The mission of the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (OAA) is to ensure that the full range of health, education, employment, social services, safety, business and economic development information, services and opportunities are accessible to the District’s African immigrant communities. 
By serving as the liaison between the District’s African immigrant communities, District government agencies and the Mayor, OAA aims to:  Improve the quality of life of the District’s diverse African born constituencies and their children; Increase civic and public engagement in the District’s African immigrant communities; and Support community development.

3rd Annual DC Africa Festival TOMORROW!

Have you RSVPed yet?? The festival is TOMORROW, Saturday July 21st and you don’t want to miss the 82 ° weather ... what are you waiting for?
Did you know that in the festival’s Culture Hut, you can learn about Benjamin Banneker, the community center’s namesake, and about different parts of Africa’s history and traditions? You can bring your children to experience our Children’s Hut, where they can do arts and crafts that they can take home with them. Our Wellness Pavillion is perfect for families, offering a place to learn about healthy African recipes and ways to improve your lifestyle. We will also have a festival raffle with many incredible prizes, including two roundtrip tickets to Africa from Arik Airlines!
Come dressed in your traditional attire to participate in our Fashion show, which includes clothing from around the continent! In addition to the fashion segment, the festival will have live entertainment from the following performers: Anna Mwalagho & Afro Floetry Band, Sahel Band, Kizomba with Oscar Ba, DJ Underdog, Sitali Siyolwe, Kignet Traditional Ethiopian Band, Ojemba Enwe Irois, Ras Puma, Capoeira Males DC, Vera Oye Yaa-Anna, Jali-D, Head-Roc, Un Afrik SHOWDEM and more!. Bring your friends and family to enjoy this free event and participate with other community members. National Park Service Annual Lotus and Lily Festival 2012 - "African Roots: A Celebration of Natural Beauty and Heritage"

The Embassy of South Africa is co-sponsoring an African Festival with the National Park Service (NPS) that is highlighting/exhibiting African culture and Natural Resources. This year is a special year for the Annual Lotus and Lily Festival as it is the first time that the NPS will be presenting information on African culture and natural resources in the District. Embassies, environmental organizations/agencies and others will be present as well as African entertainment and food. The event Details are below:
