Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

It’s a busy time in the Sports Capital. The Mystics just wrapped up an incredible season. The Capitals won their first home game on Wednesday. The Spirit, DC United, and the Commanders all have upcoming home games. The Wizards welcomed fans to a packed open practice last week and kicked off their preseason with a win this week.

Whether you’re a fan of every team or just one, a new fan or a longtime fan, the DC Public Library (DCPL) could use your help putting together an upcoming exhibition. Hail to the Fans: The Spirit of DC Sports will showcase the history and culture of Washington’s professional sports teams through its fans. Here’s what they’re looking for: objects, photographs, and memories connected to any Washington sports team in any era. Their only ask: whatever is shared comes with the story behind it. Learn more about how to participate here.

Image invites DC sports fans to share their items and memories for an upcoming exhibit at the library.

If sports aren’t your thing, there are plenty more reasons to visit our world-class libraries, including their lineup of Halloween-themed events for kids and adults and the Fall Festival at the MLK Library on Saturday, October 24.

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser
