Dear Washingtonians,
On this somber day of remembrance, we came together at Engine 16 to honor the lives lost 25 years ago, to recognize the tremendous sacrifice of the first responders who ran into danger that day, and to show our appreciation for the courage of the first responders and public safety teams who continue serving our city and country today.
Unconscionably, among the nearly 3,000 lives lost on this day 25 years ago were members of our DCPS community, including three children headed to California with their teachers.

Today is an important day to recognize the extreme professionalism, bravery, courage, and preparedness of the first responders who serve us all in Washington, DC. It remains our duty to make sure that our funding, systems of support, and methods of training remain strong for our first responders — and to make sure that we honor DC’s Bravest by honoring our commitments.
In recognizing 25 years since the attacks, we are also reminded that there is now a generation of people with no personal memory of September 11, 2001, and so it is our collective responsibility to share the stories of bravery and sacrifice that happened on that day and in the years since.
Today, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with New York City, their leadership, their first responders, and the entire community. We thank our brave first responders, we remember and honor the lives lost on this day 25 years ago and in the years since, and we hold the survivors and families whose lives were forever changed in our hearts.

 Art All Night is now underway! The two-night festival, happening on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12, is bringing free arts, entertainment, and cultural experiences to neighborhoods across all eight wards.
For the first time, Art All Night will extend the celebration into Sunday morning with the Run for the Arts 5K Run & Walk, bringing together fitness, live entertainment, and DC’s creative community along the Navy Yard waterfront.
This year’s festival features more than 150 local artists across 24 Main Streets and Business Improvement Districts.
Festivalgoers can once again use the Art All Night mobile app to discover events, explore activations by neighborhood or interest, build personalized schedules and navigate between experiences. The app also connects users to Dine All Night, taking place September 10–13 at locations across the District.
