We have a busy summer in DC, with local and national events happening across the city and much of it kicking off this weekend. Already, soccer fans have started celebrating the FIFA World Cup, and there will be watch parties and fan events happening in neighborhoods across the city, including family-friendly watch parties in Franklin Park and the Freedom 250 FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone on the National Mall.
On Saturday, the DC Defenders will take on the Louisville Kings in the United Bowl UFL Championship at Audi Field. This weekend is also the UFC Freedom 250, and whether you’re attending UFC events or just traveling through Downtown, make sure you’re tracking street closures. The Nationals are also back home. And the Mystics are at the CareFirst Arena tonight. So, there is truly something for everyone in the Sports Capital this weekend.
And plan ahead for another busy weekend next week, with Capital Pride, Juneteenth celebrations, and more.
On top of all these events, it’s also very hot in the city and we have a heat alert activated through Saturday. So, as you make plans to enjoy the city, also make plans to stay cool and hydrated and keep an eye out for neighbors who may need support.

This summer, Late Night Hype is the place to be. Last Friday, more than 1,400 teens came together for a night of music, games, free haircuts, food, dancing, and community.
But it takes a village to keep Late Night Hype thriving and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has heard from DC: you want to help! Now, DPR is calling on parents, coaches, community leaders, businesses, and partners who want to help build memorable moments for our young people.

This summer, the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment (OCTFME) is proud to partner with Urban One on Majic Wednesdays, a free summer concert series that kicked off during Black Music Month and continues the District’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Go-Go.
Now in its second year, Majic Wednesdays brings residents and visitors together for live performances that showcase the full spectrum of Black music — including Go‑Go, R&B, jazz, and more. Each week features a dynamic lineup of bands and artists whose work reflects the creativity and cultural identity of Washington, DC.
Hosted at Sycamore & Oak in Ward 8, the series offers more than music. Attendees can enjoy great food, support local vendors, and shop with Ward 8 businesses throughout the campus. Attendees can also connect with OCTFME to learn more about District programs, media platforms, workforce opportunities, and cultural initiatives.

With the FIFA World Cup 2026 underway, residents are reminded that DC United’s United in Play Soccer Celebration—Washington, DC’s official gathering place and watch party for the world’s game this summer—begins today, Friday, June 12, at Franklin Park in the heart of Downtown DC. There will be a second soccer celebration next weekend, June 19–21, at Tingey Plaza in Navy Yard.
Both events are free and open to the public with advance registration and will feature live viewings of World Cup 2026 matches alongside family-friendly programming reflecting the energy and diversity of the District.
This weekend at Franklin Park, fans can fuel up with local flavors from vendors including Moby Dick House of Kabob, Kennedy Street Tacos, and Nando’s Peri-Peri, plus beverages from City Tap House, Nu Androids, and The Park @ 14th. Kids can test their skills in an exciting soccer tournament, and live performances from Experience Band, DJ Explosive, DJ Mathias, Little Bacon Bear, and DJ Stylus Rhome Anderson will keep the energy high. Small bags are permitted, and attendees are encouraged to walk or take Metro to the events.
