Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Every year, DC Emancipation Day is a celebration of our history, our progress, and our commitment to keep pushing. This year, as we celebrate in the context of America250, we’re celebrating like only Washington, DC can.

I hope you will join us on Sunday for a free, day-long celebration that includes a festival and parade, and a star-studded lineup of performers.

DC Emancipation Day festival is on Sunday, April 19.

If you already marked your calendar weeks ago, please note that due to high demand, we updated the location of this year’s celebrations to 13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

I also encourage you to text DC250 to 888-777 to sign up to receive DC Emancipation Day weekend event updates, including information about street closures, weather alerts, and transit updates.

See you on Sunday!

Sincerely,

Muriel BowserStudents returning to school.

Reminder: DC Public Schools students return from Spring Break on Monday, April 20.

Slots Available: Summer Camps for Tweens

New four week camp for tweens.

New this year, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is partnering with local community-based organizations to offer camps for tweens ages 11-13 at locations outside of traditional DPR spaces. These thematic camps range from STEAM to cultural arts, allowing your tween to immerse themselves in what they enjoy.

DPR Around Town Camps provide youth with the opportunity to either hone skills they already have or test the waters to see if they have a new interest. Each of these camps operates in one four-week session.
